The William McDougall NewsLetter
For 'Fourth Way' NeoLibeREalism : realism, individualism, liberty, contract and community-choice. Yes: kids should choose their classes; adults should choose the type of marriage they want; countries should have cantons that genuinely differ; and the one million Black men and one thousand 'paedophiles' who make up a half of America's prison Gulag should be offered generously assisted transportation to any countries that would like to have them. Ignoracism
A McDNL correspondent finds the New York Times baffled by Black children's underperformance at school even when they come from good upper- and middle-class Black homes. Needless to say, hysterical repression is such that IQ is off the table for discussion once issues of race or ethnicity enter.

A Reason Is Sought for Lag by Blacks in School Effort
Experts Grow More Troubled by Show of Students in the Middle Class
EVANSTON, Illinois -- Taking on one
of the most troublesome and contentious issues in American education, school
officials and educators have begun a nationwide discussion of why black
middle-class and upper-income students lag behind whites of comparable economic
status. On some tests, black students from middle-class or wealthier families
have done no better than white students who live in poverty. And some
especially puzzling data have suggested that at higher achievement levels, the
gap between black and white performance is wider than at lower levels.
Black education experts are increasingly
troubled by the gap. "How do we explain the underproductivity of
middle-class kids, of able and gifted minority youngsters who come out of
situations where you would expect high achievement?" asked Edmund W.
Gordon, a professor emeritus of psychology at Yale University and the
co-chairman of the National Task Force on Minority High Achievement, formed in
1997 by the College Board. "This is not something that a lot of people
feel comfortable talking about."
In one of the most closely watched
efforts in education circles, more than a dozen middle-class, racially
integrated communities across the country, including Evanston,* and two in the
New York metropolitan area -- White Plains, and South Orange-Maplewood, N.J. --
have formed a network to learn more about the disparity and try to do something
about it. They will scrutinize what happens in schools and classrooms, and will
also look at research on the home lives, study habits, and attitudes of black
students….
\\\\\\
* Evanston, Illinois, just north of Chicago, is the home of Northwestern University. It is a highly liberal community where integration is making White kids suspicious of Black kids despite indoctrination from their White parents.
However, to keep the smell of blood, fire, brimstone and Zyklon B fresh for its readers, the NYT also included in its 'News of The Week' a reprint of the "Horror of the Nazi Race Laws."
Feminazism -- and other modern tyranny
CASANOVA-CRIMINALIZATION
APPEALS TO WIMPS
AT UK HOME OFFICE
(Times 2 and 3 vii '99)
A plan to allow easier prosecution of date rape has been solicited and
welcomed by the British Government. A report by the government-backed Sex
Offences Review recommends a new crime of date rape (between acquaintances who
have agreed to a private assignation).
For some years, feminazie activists like
those in War Against Rape have been furious. They have persuaded women and
police to agree to persecute men who think that dating can sometimes reasonably
lead to sex. Rape reports have increased threefold in Britain through the
1990's; and the percentage of cases involving 'consensual contact' has
increased from 37% in 1992 to 82% in 1998. However, through the same period
convictions have halved: juries are simply unwilling to convict for date rape.
Hence the new proposals: (1) the burden of proof in a new 'date rape' crime
will shift from the prosecution to the defence -- abandoning the centuries-old
English principle that a man is innocent till proved guilty; (2) it will no
longer help to use the classic special defences of insanity (temporary or
permanent) or accident -- the principle that to be convicted of crime a person
must have had mens rea, i.e. an intention to commit the crime.
Protesting the new proposal, Mick Hulme,
the editor of the magazine Living Marxism (which has tried to adapt
Marxism to post-1989 conditions), has written for the Times: "The
government's likely endorsement [of the Report] represents the triumph of
feminist arguments for a broader definition of rape. ….The notion that all men
are potential rapists is no longer the preserve of wide-eyed feminists -- it is
{now} at the heart of {British Government} policy making."
Hulme was joined in outrage by both the top
lady columnists of the Sunday broadsheet newspapers -- Nigella Lawson in the Observer
and McDNL heroine Melanie Phillips in the Sunday Times. Apparently, no
less than 75% of young British adults agree with statement "Women cry rape
the next day when really they have just had second thoughts"; and Melanie
Phillips added "Open season appears to have been declared now on
men." However, War Against Rape has declared that the new move is a retreat
from the true-feminist position that 'rape is rape' and that castrations should
follow accordingly and without concessions for men who have spent hundreds of
pounds on dinner/dance tickets.
{Plainly it will not be long before 'bedroom affidavits' will need signing prior to an evening out -- perhaps under the watchful glare of a local WAR official. For McDNL's 'Standard Consent Letter', see 28 vii '98.}
{After years of suppression, the amorous memoirs
of Giacomo Girolamo Casanova de Seingalt (1725-1798) were published in
full only in 1960.
Better news for 'date rapists': the new
sedative Midazolam has Rohypnol-type properties of ensuring female enjoyment
and subsequent mild amnesia -- but remember to use your Standard Consent
Letter, unlike a 37-year male mental nurse currently sought by police for
raping a 27-year female mental patient who took the drug (Times 3 vii
'99, p. 1)}

Modern British disregard for the most elementary principles of liberty has also been castigated by experts.
Intelligence
(BBCR4UK, 1 vii '99, 09:05, hosted by Lord Melvyn Bragg)
IQ TEST BAN SOUGHT
BY BRITISH EDUCATIONAL PSYCHOLOGIST
A ban on the use of IQ testing has been demanded by an influential British
educator. Ken Richardson, a leading propagandist over the years for Piagetian
and constructivist 'developmental psychology', has called IQ psychology
"pseudo-science" and called for its criminalization. Richardson was
invited to discuss his demand on air with Britain's Lord Bragg -- a leading BBC
figure, a friend of the new Director-General {see McDNL 29 vi '99}, and
a millionaire who has himself subscribed to New Labour. Richardson, an
educational psychologist who till lately worked for the Open University, had
made his call in his new book The Making of Intelligence.
Explaining his ideas, Richardson said there
was no point talking of 'innate ability' since no-one knew what was meant by
'innate.' Likewise, there was no point in experts floating figures of people's
IQ's since no-one knew what IQ tests were measuring. Asked to exemplify his own
understanding of intelligence, he gave examples of 'the incredible speed' with
which football players can respond to opportunities on the soccer field; he
said that driving a car involved impressive intelligence, 'matching input to
mental representations'; and he specially mentioned the complex, rule-guided
human social interaction that was required to carry a wardrobe downstairs. But
Richardson said it was idle to talk of mental energy or of some 'mystical
internal agency of g.' Prompted by Lord Bragg, Richardson agreed that
the Flynn effect [the world-wide rise in IQ-test scores] further attested that
no one knew what IQ tests measured. He agreed educational psychologists had
improved their practices since compulsory IQ testing for state grammar school
entry had been phased out; but he thought banning single-score IQ tests would provide
further assistance. "I don't pull back from measuring in principle,"
he said. "But we need to know what we're measuring."
Richardson was meant to be confronted on
the programme by Canadian biophilosopher Michael Ruse. But the author of Mystery
of Mysteries said only that many human variations were biological and that
IQ tests measured mathematical and numerical abilities and provided a useful
"battery of tests." "You and Ken are trying to back me into a
corner," he complained to Bragg. Unlike Lord Bragg, Ruse did not think IQ
tests and books like The Bell Curve had constituted an attack on other
races and on the underprivileged. He just thought that, if evolution brought
about the eye and human bipedalism, it surely influenced intelligence. "I'm
still obsessed with sex non-stop," he said. " …We humans are not so
far from being animals." But there were no specific claims he wanted to
make. Thus, Ruse declined to comment on Lord Bragg's question as to whether
some groups were less intelligent than others -- even though Bragg especially
mentioned that Albanians were widely held to be less intelligent than other
people in the Balkans. Nor would Ruse estimate the heritability of population
variance in IQ or of any racial difference in IQ. Ruse's strongest defence of
the notion of general intelligence was to say, "I'd rather be ruled by
someone who's intelligent than by someone who's stupid." Thus he left
Richardson effectively in possession of the democratic high ground from which
orders can go forth to jail elitists. This is what Richardson wants: his core
objection on the programme was to the view of IQ-test developer Lewis Terman
that 'we must preserve our state for those worthy to possess it.'
{The only possible embarrassment for Richardson
arose when Lord Bragg brought up the recent finding of distinctive anatomical
features in Einstein's brain. Richardson could just have answered correctly
that Einstein's large parietal lobes and their connection with his temporal
lobes had nothing to do with the question of general intelligence -- for his
anatomy precisely differentiated him from controls of IQ 115. Instead,
Richardson admitted: "I think any biologist would expect there's going to
be a correlation [between brain and intelligence] somewhere, somehow."
However, Richardson's admission that 'of course biological factors have some
role to play' is, from a popular viewpoint, a strength of the
anti-hereditarian case.
Like Stephen Ceci in America, Richardson admits 'some
involvement' of genetics and physiology in intelligence and thus makes his
views harder to falsify. -- Even Leon Kamin never estimated the heritability of
IQ as being zero but contented himself with criticising the more clearly
formulated claims of the London School. Now Richardson has thought of the next
move in the process of turning classical, honest social environmentalism about
IQ into a PC religion: Richardson's idea is to declare 'no contest' with modest
claims for the importance of biology and to concentrate instead on the moral/political
task of banning the tests. Criminalization will mean scientific research and
public policy can no longer develop in response to the reality of the g factor.
Such a ban will hold the fort for egalitarianism until the genes for IQ are
discovered and left-wing geneticists embark on restricting the standard
deviation for IQ so as to make the egalitarian dream a reality. Unfortunately,
while the BBC can supply only such a moderate opponent as Michael Ruse,
IQ-bashers are likely to have a field day and parents will be left on their own
to ponder what might be a suitable level of academic challenge to which to
expose their child.}
{Richardson's own work is critically discussed in The g Factor: General Intelligence and Its Implications (Wiley DePublisher, p.187). Richardson's view is that even Raven's Matrices [the world's best-known test of fluid g] 'literally fails to engage the reasoning process.'}

SCRAP CAMBRIDGE UNIVERSITY, SAYS IQ-BASHER
Also starring in the 'liberal'-left British media has been the Marxist and
IQ-bashing 'neuroscientist' Steven Rose (Times Higher 25 vi '99,
'Making entry to Oxford and Cambridge fairer will take more than IQ tests').
Rose was infuriated by the suggestion (of Steve Harnad, the top cogniburbler
now at University of Southampton) that IQ tests might be used to select
Oxbridge students. (Using tests would give state school applicants more of the
leg-up that they have been meant to be receiving ever since the 1960's, when
the route of improving working class children by grammar school education was
abandoned by Labour egalitarians.)
In his reply, Rose vented the standard
though well falsified* claim that "the abstract numerology of IQ scores
has rather little to do with real measures of life success or creativity."
On safer ground, he continued with the less falsifiable claim that "in the
richly intricate jungle of brain processes that modern neuroscience is
studying, there is no space for a reified lump of genetically fixed
"intelligence"." {Who said 'Whenever I hear the phrase 'richly
intricate ongoing complex multivariate interaction effect'** I reach for my
revolver'?} However, it is how Rose starts his article that will have surprised
most readers of Times Higher:
"The view from Cambridge's King's College bridge of Gibb's Building, the chapel and Clare College is one of the most sublime architectural harmonies I know. And yet, in my more radical fantasies, I have, if reluctantly, come to the conclusion that if we are ever to achieve a more egalitarian society in Britain, it may have to go. For however liberal the intentions of the universities of Cambridge and Oxford are, they remain, at the end of this millennium, the educational access points to privilege."
Yes, Rose not only doubts that IQ tests can make for acceptable selection processes. He also cannot think of any method that would rejoice his egalitarian heart -- short of transforming society and letting Oxbridge provide the training grounds for Party cadres-to-be. So 'the view from King's….may have to go.'
* Vince Sarich noted for the Human Biodiversity e-mail group: "With respect to "real measures of life success" -- well, when I see a comment of that sort, my response is Charles Murray's 1998 booklet Income Inequality and IQ. There, Murray compares (among other things) the earnings of pairs of subjects who were full biological siblings and who had lived in the same home with both biological parents at least through the younger sibling's seventh year, and where one of the siblings had in mid-adolescence an IQ in the "normal" range (25-74 percentile), and the other fell into one of the other cognitive classes (very bright, 90+; bright, 75-89; dull, 10-24; very dull, <10). The mean earning differences (in 1993 dollars) were then +17,786, +4,407, -5,792, and -9,462 respectively. These differences were for individuals in their early 30s -- so they are going to get larger, not smaller. Results on those pencil and paper tests do seem to have consequences, don't they?"
** See e.g. McDNL 29 vi '99, WHAT HAPPENED IN HISTORY?
--
Further asserting its editorial view that IQ is out and affirmative racism is in, the same issue of Times Higher carried a reply to Martin Trowe's attempt to counsel Britain against 'positive discrimination' (see McDNL 22 vi '99, BRITAIN IS WARNED OFF RACE PREFERENCING). The stern reply, by Karen Ross, was titled simply 'Where next for biological racism?' Increasingly, it seems that Britain is doomed to follow America down the path of quotas and preferences that has done nothing to solve America's race problems over the past thirty years -- though providing plenty of jobs for 'antiracists.' Mr Blair may try to draw the line at providing more than mere 'targets' for minority representation. Yet as educationalists and the media parade the view that IQ is wicked and 'racist', there will probably be no meritocratic line that college admissions tutors will be able to hold.
POWER-SHARING TO
BE IMPOSED
ON NORTHERN IRELAND
-- The 1974 Sunningdale experiment broke down after three months when Unionists went on strike at the power stations and brought Ulster to a halt. This time, Mr Blair thinks the IRA and the Dublin government will see Britain through the process of getting rid of Northern Ireland. --
ULSTER -- Despite five solid days of talks, an exhausted Prime Minister Blair was not given on a plate the all-party fudge he wanted to bring about a multicultural power-sharing executive for the troubled province of Northern Ireland. Instead, Blair will impose his own fudge by demanding the nomination of members of a functioning executive on July 15. Presently, in what Blair calls "a seismic breakthrough", Sinn Fein/IRA undertakes to hand over a few of its guns from its vast American-funded arsenal once its leaders receive their first salary cheques as Stormont Ministers. Blair will therefore sit with his chequebook ready and dare Ulster Unionists at once to say their famous 'No' to salaries and to defy the Northern Irish piss process. Gerry Adams will be hoping the Unionists will kick in the teeth this best-ever gift horse, for that will save Adams having to make the IRA deliver any guns while giving Sinn Fein a seat in government for having tried. If Orangemen do not co-operate in multiculturalism, the Good Friday Accord will be at an end, the IRA will be able to renege on its sweetest-ever promise of decommissioning (meant to be total by May, 2000), and there may even be an end to the 1997-99 IRA cease-fire. Some conservative commentators (Bruce Anderson, Sunday Telegraph 4 vii '99) still believe the Orangemen can obtain no better deal; and a power-sharing Stormont Parliament would certainly be an English victory -- and allow an English exit after thankless years of policing Europe's last longest-running Catholic-Protestant tribal struggle. However, any failure of power-sharing and descent of the North into civil war -- taking the rest of Ireland with it -- would provide an example to the world of the impossibility of multiculturalism and be a poor reward for the vast majority of Irish people, north and south, who would be quite happy with enclave-based peace.
{Writing in the Times (30 vi '99), top political columnist Simon Jenkins doubted power-sharing will work any better than in the three months for which it lasted in 1974. "Power-sharing is impracticable, unhistorical, unresearched and inherently flawed," said Jenkins. Fortunately, the lower-IQ people of Northern Ireland have long been ethnically cleansed into 'Protestant'/Unionist and 'Catholic'/Irish-Nationalist enclaves. Instead of pretending that the Northern Irish have enough in common to merit a parliament where they could discuss minor differences between Whigs and Tories, Sinn Fein and the SDLP, or Blairites and Bennites, the obvious plan would be to make the enclaves the major instruments of government in the province. For such central direction as the cantons would need, the mayors of the enclaves would weekly enjoy the ear of the UK Secretary of State at Stormont and a regular supply of Chateau Lafitte Rothschild and prawn-cocktail-filled croissants.}
{For McDNL's plan for 'constituency choice' as a solution to Kosovo- Armenia- and Ulster-type problems, see 11 v '99 et seq.}

Quotes of the Week
"I detest religious and racial bigotry of any kind.
On offer in Northern Ireland is not just an end of terror. It is a start to
justice and fair treatment for all."
Prime Minister Tony BLAIR (increasingly
Britain's best-known journalist), writing for Sunday Times 4 vii '99.
{Just which of Britain's previous Governments, including his own, had not even
begun to offer "justice and fair treatment for all" was not stated.}
"[If an executive is formed and the IRA fails to
decommission,] the Prime Minister is offering an unsatisfactory and unfair
safety net."
David Trimble (Ulster Unionist
leader), speaking in the House of Commons, 5 vii '99. {Unionists maintain that,
were an executive body set up, there would be overwhelming pressures to
maintain it -- even if not a single IRA gun were surrendered. Sinn Fein would
simply say it had no control over the IRA and should not be expelled from the
new Assembly just because of the IRA's refusal to decommission.}
The full rigour of the law has been used to
imprison a wicked US 'racist.'
Was he a nasty bit of White trash from Arkansas who threatened Black girls with
a knife?
No: he was just an Asian student in California who sent e-mails ridiculing
people he thought had been the beneficiaries of affirmative racism.
ASIAN STUDENT JAILED FOR E-MAILS: SOME PEOPLE HAD THEIR POSITIONS ONLY BECAUSE OF 'POSITIVE' DISCRIMINATION, HE SAID.

LOS ANGELES -- A Chinese-born college student said he was consumed by
"immaturity and frustrations" when he sent threatening and racially
derogatory e-mails to Hispanics. Kingman Quon, 23, was sentenced to two years
in federal prison for seven misdemeanor counts of interfering with federally
protected activities. He pleaded guilty in February. Quon apologized to his
victims and told the judge he let his immaturity get the better of him when he
sent his messages.
One of Quon's e-mails went to state
Assemblywoman Gloria Romero. Quon apologized to the Assemblywoman and the two
hugged after the hearing. "I heard his apology and I believe that it is
real and I am grateful for what he said," Romero said.
A marketing major at California State
Polytechnic University at Pomona, Quon sent the same racially derogatory e-mail
in March 1998 to 42 professors at California State University at Los Angeles
and 25 students at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. "The only reason
you people are in state colleges is because of affirmative action," the
message read. Quon also sent the messages to employees of Indiana University,
Xerox Corp., the Texas Hispanic Journal, the Internal Revenue Service and
NASA's Ames Research Center.
As a condition of probation, Quon will not
be allowed to use a computer or the Internet without permission of probation
officials for a year after his release from prison, said prosecutors.
McDNL's St Louis Correspondent notes:
I have never before heard of the "crime" of "interfering
with federally protected activities". Scary.

By contrast, the UK Labour Party has a serious allegation of 'racism' to handle. Its Black (marginal) candidate for the revived post of Mayor of London, Trevor Phillips, is a New Labour man who seems unlikely to bring any more Govenrment cash to jazz up London's appalling 'transport' system than is already being supplied by Mr Blair. Thus a more left-wing candidate, the White and Old Labour (and homosexual) politician, Ken Livingstone, is the front-runner in the polls. Thinking to produce a 'dream ticket', on June 17 Livingstone said he would welcome Phillips as Vice-Mayor -- only to be promptly and uncollegially condemned by Phillips as a "racist."
A new crop of chemical alerts for McDougallers:
(Sunday Times 4 vii '99)
A gene conferring enormous longevity, and perhaps even immortality, has been identified after generations of experimental breeding of fruit flies. At the University of California, rogue evolutionary biologist Michael Rose is now continuing work which he believes will enable purchasers of the relevant engineering to live to 140.
{Rose's discovery will prove the last nail in the coffin of welfare states like Britain. The prospect of paying to keep fellow citizens alive for ever will have limited appeal, so the privatization of health & longevity insurance will be necessary.}
--
Bob Edwards, the famous British embryologist who with Patrick Steptoe developed in vitro fertilization, has said that advances in genetic screening should soon wipe out most forms of handicap. "Soon it will be a sin {sic} of parents to have a child that carries the heavy burden of genetic disease," he told a medical conference." Disabled lobbyists expressed outrage.

NEWS in BRIEF & UPDATE
EDINBURGH -- Community choice -- As Her Majesty the Queen ascended
the Royal Mile to open the new toothless Scottish Parliament, she had to suffer
coins being thrown at her in her open carriage by students demanding the
abolition of tuition fees (the top political issue in Scotland for the past
year). Four Irish protesters leaped from behind police barriers and ran
alongside her carriage making the IRA's big next demand -- for the disbanding
of the Royal Ulster Constabulary (staffed largely by Protestants since the IRA
kneecaps Catholics who join). In the HQ of the Church of Scotland, on the
Mound, the Queen told the Members of the Scottish Parliament (MSPs) that they
were 'embarking on a long and historic journey.' Many took Her Majesty
literally -- easy to do since the Parliament was adjourning for holidays until
October, allowing MSPs to attend important conferences in Tuscany. The Queen
went on to open Edinburgh's millennial mini-dome -- a one sixth of a square
mile plastic blister at the foot of Salisbury Crags which contains a bit of iceberg
and a plastic model of a sabre-toothed tiger. (The blister's rather flat roof
is supposedly 'aerodynamically designed' to cope with one foot of snow. After
that, men will go round using one-bar electric fires to thaw the snow -- a
triumph of architectural job-creation!) At the party that followed Her Majesty
appearing without wearing her crown or carrying a handbag (both deemed
insensitive to Scottish feelings), many Scottish big names failed to show up --
notably the country's top comedian, Billy Connolly -- because their amour
propre did not permit them to accept invitations at only two month's notice
to what Mr Blair once called 'Scotland's parish council.'
Astonishingly, top pinko Andrew Marr,
columnist for the Observer, thinks Edinburgh and Dublin (in the news for
the marriage of Posh Spice) represent some kind of triump of multicultural
spirit -- unlike poor old Belfast ('Perils of ethnic purity', 4 vii '99).
In fact, Éire is the most mono-ethnic country in Europe (overwhelmingly
Catholic and with primary schoolchildren spending a fifth of their time in
school learning Gaelic); and the only Black people in Edinburgh are those
reading for Ph.D.'s or training as nurses. Evidently Marr does not move far
from London watering holes.
OSTRAVA, Czech Republic -- Romany rights campaigners are taking the Czech ministry of education to court, accusing it of widespread discrimination against gypsy children. The European Roma Rights Centre has filed charges in the Czech Constitutional Court over alleged discrimination in the Ostrava region. It says schools are wrongly classifying many gypsies as mentally impaired. Campaigners claim gypsies in the Czech Republic are 15 times more likely than ethnic Czechs to be transferred to schools for the mentally retarded. {Notoriously, gipsy children suffer dyslexia as well as below-average IQ. -- Ed.}
LONDON -- Among bright children, many of them Mensa candidates, GCSE exam results are dependent on having a good memory, not an especially high IQ, according to new research into exam performance by cognitive psychologists (published in the latest Educational Psychology). {Whether below-average IQ remains a handicap in Britain's dumbed-down exams was not investigated.}
CONCORD, New Hampshire (UPI) -- New Hampshire's Supreme Court has upheld the child pornography and attempted sexual assault convictions of David Cobb, a teacher at an exclusive Massachusetts prep school. Cobb, till 1996 an English teacher at Phillips Academy in Andover, Mass., had argued that he was not in possession of child pornography when he was arrested while trying to lure a 12-year-old Farmington boy on an expedition. He may serve up to seven years in prison.
LONDON BBCR4UK 1 vii '99, 08:00 -- Labour's Minister for Overseas Development, the left-wing Clare Short, has condemned 'conservative' Catholic, Evangelical and Islamic authorities that restrict world-efforts for birth control. The world's population has doubled to 6 billion from its 3 billion level in 1960 and Kosovo (where native Serbs had failed to match the ethnic Albanian birth-rate of 7.5 children per woman) shows the type of result to be expected as the total increases to 10 billion by 2020. Ms Short says many third-world hospital beds are occupied by women suffering from sub-professional abortions.
KUKES (Associated Press 1 vii '99) -- Kosovo, intended as a shop window of Nato-induced ethnic harmony, has become a land of opportunity for anyone seeking a fast buck. At the Yugoslav-Albanian border, routine controls have broken down. During the war, fleeing ethnic Albanians were stripped of their documents and license plates. Now, according to Albanian police who spoke on condition of anonymity, any Albanian-speaking person who claims to be a refugee is allowed to cross into Kosovo -- even those without passports or license plates on their vehicles. Police say the ranks of the 'refugees' include Albanian criminals anxious to take part in the looting of Serb homes or establish smuggling rings in Kosovo, which had a much higher living standard than Albania. British Kfor troops have now had to shoot dead several ethnic Albanians who were seen firing weapons in Pristina streets.
SOHO, London (Sunday Times 4 vii '99, 'Kosovo sex slaves held in Soho flats') -- Spoils of War ooops Humanitarian Intervention -- Hundreds of prostitutes fresh from Kosovo are now available in London's red light area for gentlemen liking a lively filly without a Cockney accent. Brought to London by Albanian gangsters, the girls have suffered violence and rape from Albanians, been deprived of their passports, sleep ten in a room and earn £UK1,500 per week -- almost all going to pay their 'debts' to their countrymen who have kindly brought them to England's green and pleasant land.
PRISTINA, BBCR4UK 4 vii '99 -- Modern 'genocide' -- A
"new low" in discovered Serb (or Gipsy or KLA) atrocities has been
claimed by UK Foreign Secretary Robin 'Martian' Cook. The bodies of a
sixty-five adults and seven children have been found who were shot in the back
of the head. Details have been forwarded to the Hague as prima facie
evidence of a war crime. The shootings took place after a year of civil
war in Kosovo and on the day after Nato began its bombing of Serbia.
The overwhelming majority of disparus
-- victims of genocide, according to Nato while it was bombing Serbia -- have
now reappeared: they had not even been driven into the forests but were hiding
in their own homes. Ethnic Albanians in Djakovica have told the left-wing Observer
(4 vii '99) that the Serb paramilitaries only raided and burned the one
home in ten where a young man was suspected of being a KLA collaborator.
British journalists are now virtually at
war with each other as to which of them were the worst dupes of Nato propaganda
as to Serbian horrors and Nato successes in destroying Serbian armour -- now
known to have been pitifully few.
LOMÉ, Togo (Observer 4 vii '99) -- Hundreds of human rights abuses have been alleged by Amnesty International against Togo's President Eyadema. Apparently Eyadema had gotten into the Pinochetian habit of dropping his political enemies by helicopter into the sea; however, he enjoys the support of French President Jacques Chirac since Togo is the world's fourth-largest producer of high-quality phosphates.
MOSCOW Times 1 vii '99 -- Paedophilic pedagogy -- Russia's star Olympic gymnast of the 1970's, Olga Korbut, has claimed that she was being screwed senseless at least from the age of 17 by her trainer. For his part, Renald Knysh has replied that Olga made up the story to boost sales of her memoirs; but it transpires that many Muscovites long assumed that a little para-paedophilia was to be expected on youngsters' routes to becoming athletic stars and Heroines of Soviet Labour. {For paedophilic coaching efforts in the British Isles see TgF Newsletter 28 vi '97, BRITOID AND E'IRISH FOOTBALL STARS TRAINED BY PERVS SHOCK.}
CHICAGO -- Another paedophilic prodigy? -- A successful week for Black i.e. marginal Alexandra Stevenson, 18, at Wimbledon culminated in press attention and two revelations about her nature and nurture. (1) Alexandra is the daughter of the famed Black US basketball player, Julius 'Doctor J' Erving, by a White woman he knew before marrying his current wife, Turquoise, in 1972. (Erving has long been held up as a model of personal rectitude in a sport where most of the Black men are notoriously randy; and he has apparently supported his out-of-wedlock daughter and only revealed his connection with the young starlet as the media storm broke.) (2) Alexandra's talent was spotted by her mother, Samantha, when she was only four and she was put into special coaching at La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club. By 9, Alexandra was being coached by Dr Peter Fischer, the Los Angeles paediatrician and tennis teacher who helped Pete Sampras develop his game as a youth. Three times a week, Samantha drove three hours to Los Angeles for her daughter's lessons. The coaching gave her a remarkable classic style of play, using a powerful single-hand backhand and volley shots, but it was discontinued in 1997 when Dr Fischer was arrested -- on charges of 'molesting children' at his medical practice.
CHICAGO -- An apparently 'racist' attacker who shot six Orthodox Jews, a Black athlete and several Asians appears to have been as undiscriminating in his hostility as are 'antiracists' in their undiscriminating wish to advance 'minorities.' A reward of $US10,000 information leading to the man's arrest has been offered by the American Jewish Committee.
LONDON (Sunday Times 4 vii '99) -- Personality, memory and the brain -- A paint-stripper and part-time policeman who took part in a second marriage ceremony with his wife has failed to take to her. Chris Wardman, 34, had lost his memory of his wife after a car accident which gave him brain damage -- though he knew he was meant to be in love with her. The couple attempted the ceremony hoping it would bring back the husband's memories, but now they are to divorce. As well as suffering memory loss, Mr Wardman has a changed personality. 'I envy the man I am supposed to have been,' he said. 'He sounds a whole bundle of fun and good humour, but I'm afraid I'm just not like that any more.'
LIVERPOOL -- Nature > Nurture -- Britain's psychiatrists have been told that anorexia has a genetic component. As pigs have been bred to yield leaner meat, they have increasingly suffered the 'slimmer-killer' disorder, work by Dr Janet Treasure has shown.
SWANSEA (Sun 22 vi '99) -- The UK Labour Cabinet Minister who became involved with strangers last November on London's Clapham Common in a "moment of madness" has now stood down as Chairman of the Welsh Assembly's Economics Committee. Ron Davies MP says he will continue to 'service his constituents with vigour' -- as he seems well equipped to do following revelations of his bisexuality and obsessional-compulsive-impulsive personality diagnosis. Fresh evidence was provided lately when Ron surfaced in another park soliciting strangers for casual gay sex.
Modern Censorship ooops Depublication
(Times Higher)
In 1996, the British 'Holocaust-denier', historian David Irving,
suffered a similar modern fate to that of Chris Brand: Irving had his book
contract with Macmillan/St Martin's cancelled. Just as Brand's book was backed
by Tom Bouchard, Hans Eysenck, Jim Flynn and Nick Mackintosh, Irving has no
difficulty finding top academics who say he is a good historian who should be
heard. The leading British military historian, John Keegan, says Irving "knows
more than anyone alive about the German side of the Second World War"; and
Keegan considers Irving's work "indispensable to anyone seeking to
understand the war in the round." Gordon Craig, a leading scholar of
German history at Stanford University, also calls Irving's work
"indispensable." He adds, "I always learn something from
him."
Even a vociferous detractor, Deborah
Lipstadt, has said Irving's 'controversial' book, Goebbels: Mastermind of
the Third Reich, now published by Irving himself, should not face criminal
charges. "Legal restraints," she wrote in her Denying the
Holocaust, "transform the deniers into martyrs on the altars of free
speech." But, without media support, and having already been fined for
'Holocaust revisionism' in Germany, Irving has had no alternative but to resort
to the law -- for which he apparently has ample means. Evidently, his contract
with Macmillan turned out to be essentially worthless; so he is suing Lipstadt
who said "Irving is a propagandist -- one of the most dangerous
spokespersons for Holocaust denial -- and not a historian at all." Next
year the case will be tried in a London court.
Irving is not entirely happy with having to
vindicate himself by using the law against a fellow academic. He admits,
"It may be unfortunate for Professor Lipstadt that she is the one who
finds herself dragged out of the line and shot." But he insists that his
claim that Auschwitz never had any gas chambers is quite simply true.
Manifestly this simple claim, if vindicated, would threaten the livelihoods of
PC hysterics -- much as if the APA were to admit the likely involvement of
genetic factors in the Black-White g difference.
{Yes, one IQ-backer did once go to
law, in the USA: in 1978-81 Nobelist Bill Shockley sued in Atlanta
against the claim that he was a 'Nazi'. However, Shockley only won a dollar in
damages -- thus establishing that Hans Eysenck, Arthur Jensen and other
hereditarians could all be called 'scientific racists' etc. with effective
impunity. Today, Shockley's eugenic ideas are being vindicated. A
California-based private group called C.R.A.C.K. (Children Requiring A Caring
Kommunity, <http://cracksterilization.com/>*) has been succeeding in its
goal of preventing drug-addicted women from having unwanted children. Organized
by Barbara Harris (after she had first adopted four infants from a
drug-addicted mother and challenged other Americans to do the same), C.R.A.C.K.
offers cash payments of $200 to men or women who undergo long-term birth
control (like Norplant, or an IUD) or permanent sterilization (such as tubal
ligation or vasectomy). Though there have been media scares about Norplant
[resulting in its withdrawal in Nanny-run Britain**], C.R.A.C.K. has begun
exporting its program to other states. But Bill Shockley's name is still
treated with nothing but contempt and vilification by academia and the
East-coast press in the USA.
* "OUR ORGANIZATION cares about the hundreds of thousands of
pregnancies that drug addicts produce year after year. Each baby abandoned by
his or her parents is considered a "million dollar baby" since
the medical costs for each infant usually soar above the million dollar
mark!" C.R.A.C.K.'s website claims the
organization enjoys the support of Dr Laura Schlessinger {for whose paedohysteria,
see recent McDNLs}. Evidently Doctor Laura must be sympathetic to the
arguments of Chapter 3 of The g Factor -- that contraceptive inducement
deserves support from the environmentalist, as much as from the hereditarian
viewpoint.
The C.R.A.C.K. organization has recently figured in CBS
News programmes; and it is the subject of an article in the women's magazine Marie
Claire (US), July 1999.
PS Dr Tom Markin has written (at his
'Curmudgeons' Corner' on the Net): "Mrs. Harris who is white and married
to a black, has three grown sons who are biracial. She responds to people who
cry racism that of the 61 women who have taken the $200, 26 are Caucasian, 24
are African American, and 11 are Hispanics. The women have acknowledged having
a total 446 pregnancies, of which 169 were aborted. Twenty three of the
children were stillborn, 22 died later and 185 were placed in foster
care."
** Norplant involves the insertion of six matchstick-sized capsules under the skin of the inside of the arm. It meets the need for 'fit and forget' contraception by irresponsible and immature girls for whom using the Pill is too much like hard work, and it has a high approval rating from British medical bodies. However, a few women have reported side effects including excessive bleeding and the UK health authorities took fright after tabloid headlines 'Hi tech birth control has ruined our sex lives' and 'New birth control made me a monster.' }
Two North American stars of the London School figure prominently in a new article on academics who have been sent to Coventry by their 'colleagues.'
Chronicle of Higher Education 2 vii '99, 'The academic path to pariah status', Alison Schneider <http://chronicle.com/weekly/v45/i43/43a01201.htm>.
….if a scholar is wrong, sometimes shunning can be the
right response, some professors say. It would be unethical not to steer
students away from a professor whose work seems devoid of intellectual merit,
they argue.
J. Philippe Rushton, a psychologist at the University
of Western Ontario has heard the "He's a loon" argument before. Ever
since Mr Rushton published research in the late '80s suggesting that black
people have smaller brains, lower IQ's and stronger sex drives than white or Asian
people do, he has been hanging on to his job by no more than a thread, he says.
For months, the Canadian government considered prosecuting him under its
anti-hate-crime laws. His academic evaluations went downhill. He was forced to
teach by video for a semester in 1990, because the university said his presence
on the campus might lead to violence. His only committee assignment is the one
on space and facilities. "It's the lowest-status committee in the
department," he says.
"This is one-party science across the board,"
he adds. "I try to find places where I'm acceptable, but people can't
accept that there are race differences." And if you try to discuss them,
you'll end up in the same place he is, he says: "In the dock."
Not even a half-sympathetic journalist can bring herself to style Professor Phil Rushton, D.Sc., according to either his doctorate or his professorship. Nor is there much loyalty among the beleaguered, for Alison Schneider continues:
Mr. Rushton's career may be on the line, but maybe he bears some of the responsibility for putting it there, other scholars say. Insisting, as Mr. Rushton does, that the average I.Q. of Africans in Africa is 70 is "absurd on its face," says Mr. Sarich, who has sat on the hot seat himself for arguing that crime and intelligence are influenced by genetic factors. "When you get associated with a claim that's absurd on its face, you ought to give it more thought before plunging ahead and saying, 'I'm just doing science.'" Mr. Rushton is indeed shunned, Mr. Sarich continues, and a lot of the shunners "go well beyond the pale. But they're being unduly tempted."
The star occupational psychologist of the London School is also lucky that she still has her job. And she can never win -- for once she had fought her case she found herself blamed for having fought:
Finding high-minded reasons for low-ball tactics is de
rigeur in academe, says Linda S. Gottfredson, an education professor at the
University of Delaware. "When people set out to paralyze you, often they
won't blatantly violate your academic freedom. They use what appear to be
normal review procedures and the usual technical language to reject your
article or your grant, when it's merely a pretext for an underlying political
disagreement."
In 1989, after publishing several articles criticizing
the use of racial curves in scoring the results of employment tests, Ms.
Gottfredson was denied a promotion at Delaware. The education-studies
department accused her of fudging her data and said her research had been
slipping for a decade. The sociology department refused to let students take
one of her courses for credit. Administrators began examining her students'
papers to see if they contained "improper ideas" on racial
differences, she says. And Delaware banned her from accepting grants from the
Pioneer Fund on the grounds that the foundation had a racist agenda.
Ms. Gottfredson hired a lawyer and eventually forced
the university to retreat on every front. But the ordeal took its toll. "I
don't give my address out to anyone who doesn't need it. My phone number is
unlisted. I'm happy my children have a different last name than I do," she
says. "Overnight, my institution seemed to be trying to crush me. That's
how it felt for three years -- as if there was an attempt from inside to
destroy me."
"I think Linda suffered mightily," says James
Raths, an education professor who led her department during the disagreement.
"She was isolated. But both sides think they're right. They start
attributing motive. This is compounded when someone who's aggrieved gets a
lawyer. Then the other side gets a lawyer. It quickly escalated into a very
unhappy situation."
{For an author who is entirely unimpressed
that Phil Rushton has ever suffered more than a little isolated 'harassment', see
http://www.psychology.uoguelph.ca/papers/winston/rushton.html.
There, Andrew Winston, of the University Guelph, reprints his 1996 article
'The context of correctness: a comment on Rushton (J. Social Distress and
the Homeless 5, 2, 231-250). Winston maintains that Rushton and many
'eugenicists', 'physical anthropologists' and 'anti-Semites' have had a
well-funded and rip-roaring century, culminating in Phil Rushton's tenured
antics and appearance in some introductory textbooks of psychology. Even in
1918, for example, Prescott Hall of the Immigration Restriction League wrote to
his friend Madison Grant, author of The Passing of the Great Race, that
"I am up against the Jews all the time in the equality argument." In
the middle of the century, Winston attributes particular influence to Henry
Garrett (1894-1973), Chair at Columbia for 16 years, president of the APA,
Eastern Psychological Association, and the Psychometric Society, fellow of the
AAAS and member of the prestigious National Research Council. In 1961, Garrett
claimed that 'the equalitarian dogma,' the belief that Blacks and Whites are
genetically equal in cognitive ability, was the `scientific hoax' of the
twentieth century.
Needless to say, Winston draws a veil over the big
events: the physical attacks and threats to Arthur Jensen and Hans Eysenck; the
vilification of Sir Cyril Burt [whose alleged IQ fabrications were found
largely 'not proven' by Mackintosh in 1995]; the complete blockage of research
funding for IQ research -- which drove most researchers to seek funding from
the Pioneer Foundation; the sustained campaigns of the early 1990's to oust
Phil Rushton and Linda Gottfredson and Michael Levin; and Rushton's having no
mainstream publisher for his major book Race, Evolution and Behavior (New
Jersey : Transaction, 1995). A full and fair account the century's IQ war is
given in Roger Pearson's Race, Intelligence and Bias in Academe (2nd
revised and expanded edition 1997, Washington DC [P.O. Box 34070] : Scott
Townsend) -- a book which is itself banned from being imported into Canada,
even though it strangely makes not a single reference to what Winston takes to
be the triumphs of Henry Garrett. For a personal hereditarian view of what it
was like to live through the mounting egalitarian pressures of the years from
1969 [when Arthur Jensen wrote his famous Harvard Educational Review article],

{For all the fun to be had as an 'antiracist', see Barry Mehler's website <http://about.ferris.edu/htmls/academics/syllabi/mehlerbarry/cv.htm>. Starting as a historian, Mehler has functioned as computer expert, demographer, social historian, historian of science, academic expert on eugenics, educationist [running a Head Start programme for 2000 minority students which received more than $300,000 in grant aid from 1993 to 1997] and civil rights consultant. A graduate of Yeshiva University, New York, Mehler, 52, was made a full Professor this year at Ferris State University, Big Rapids, Michigan, where he works in the Department of Humanities. He has been sponsored by the National Institute of Mental Health and by the National Science Foundation. He has appeared on ABC World News Tonight, The Donahue Show, Geraldo, Jane Wallace Show, CNN, Global World News (Canada), and Canadian Public Television's The Journal. He was a consultant for UK Channel 4 TV's three-part series on the history of eugenics (broadcast 1996). His forthcoming books, The American Eugenics Society and Academic Racism in America, 1945 to the Present, will apparently be published by Indiana University Press. Nevertheless, Mehler thinks environmentalists and (his own affiliation) interactionists have had a hard time in the twentieth century: "The hereditarians have predominated during most of this time. Only during the period from 1945 to the mid-seventies have social determinists held the dominant position."}
{Neuroburbling Marxist Prof. Steven Rose, Open University, also enjoys plenty of fun in the British media as he expounds his message (1996, http://www.carf.demon.co.uk/feat01.html ): "Scientific racism* has been around for a very long time. The last big wave began in 1969 and was tied up with people like Eysenck in this country and Jensen in the States. ….there is tremendous political motivation and drive in puffing up again these long exploded ideas and dressing them up with the new science. It's the same old gang: Richard Lynn in Ireland, Charles Murray in the US, Rushton in Canada and Chris Brand in Britain. Many of them are funded by the same right-wing source -- the Pioneer Foundation in the US. ….Brand's comments on single mothers are tapping into an area of considerable right-wing concern, and his mixture of genetic and moral arguments make it a more heady political mix -- a combination of bad scientific ideology and bad moral ideology. ….Brand and Eysenck claim that there is one unifying thing called 'g' -- crystallised intelligence, a lump of something inside the brain. But you cannot take all these complex aspects of the way in which we relate to the outside world -- in terms of our linguistic skills, how we respond emotionally or how good we are
